Last week I attended the All-Ireland Business Summit in Croke Park. In it's fourth year now, the event brings together an eclectic mix of businesses and sectors and a jam-packed agenda with speakers ranging from "Dragons" (of the Duffy, McCoy, Quinn and Nicholas variety) to the inspirational and very entertaining, Dr. Sinead Kane, to the absolutely spellbinding mentalist, Keith Barry (he can make you think a stiletto shoe is a teaspoon, I kid you not!).
I scribbled some notes on the day for my own reference but thought perhaps someone else might draw inspiration from the wise words spoken. Obviously not written verbatim, but lessons worth considering from very wise men and women.
Lady Chanelle McCoy, Dragon's Den investor, Chanelle Medical
Brian McEniff, McEniff Hotel Group
Pat McDonagh, Supermac's
Owen Fitzpatrick, Psychologist
Ramona Nicholas, Cara Group
Padraig O'Ceidigh, Entrepreneur
Niall Breslin, A Lust for Life
Dr Sinead Kane, Guinness World Record holder
Gerry Hussey, Psychologist
Keith Barry, Hypnotist & Mentalist
Finally, Padraig O'Ceidigh recited this poem by Dr. Kent M. Keith
People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered. Love them anyway.
If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives. Do good anyway.
If you are successful, you win false friends and true enemies. Succeed anyway.
The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway.
Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable. Be honest and frank anyway.
The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds. Think big anyway.
People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs. Fight for a few underdogs anyway.
What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight. Build anyway.
People really need help but may attack you if you do help them. Help people anyway.
Give the world the best you have and you'll get kicked in the teeth.
Give the world the best you have anyway.
